Well, there is no secret to parenthood, puke is still gross to clean up and your kid isn't going to be the exception to the rule and turn out perfect. I've now been a Mom for a little over a year and it's still scary. What if Asher breaks something? Can I get him to the hospital before I pass out? What if he swallows a quarter? Do I really just wait for it to pass? What kind of guilt trip do I have to lay on Nick to make him pick through the poo to find the 25 cents?
I can say however, that having a wonderful kid makes it easier to be a good Mom. If you haven't met Asher, let me fill you in on the wonder that is a Nick and Lizz spawn. He is happy all the time, and he will smile at anyone if you smile at him first. When he gets shy, which is when someone first talks to him, he puts his ear to his left shoulder and looks all bashful. I thought that he did this when someone talked to him, but when a talking Christmas ornament made him tilt his head, I just laughed. What a weirdo!
We haven't found a food that he doesn't like yet, he almost always sleeps through the night and he crawls so fast that you could swear there's some "High Speed Internet" in him. (You've seen those commercials.) I love this kid so freakin much!
He turned 1 on December 10th, and we threw him a Birthday party on December 13th at my Dad's showroom in Salt Lake. We had both families come and we had a lot of fun. Asher wasn't really in to the presents at the party, but he loves them now that we've gotten them home. It was really fun planning a party for someone I knew, rather than for work, but at the same time it's definitely not as much fun to have to use your own money.
Here are some pictures from the Momentous Occasion . . .
Me feeding Asher his first ever Cupcake
Asher hasn't gotten the whole blowing concept yet
I don't have a comment for this one, it must be something cool we're looking at though.
Asher hasn't gotten the whole blowing concept yet
I had to go to work to blow up these balloons and was consequently 10 minutes late to my own party. But he loved tugging on them and watching them bounce.
I made the cake for the party, and was really proud of myself. I used the extra cake batter to make cupcakes with little banana runts on top, and then used a little icing for the stem. I loved this cake!
I really love my son, and I'm already looking forward to his other parties when we can have Creature Encounters bring all kinds of reptiles to his party, for the party at the library and so much more. It will be a great time!
Happy Birthday Asher!!!

You are a great mom and you did a BEAUTIFUL job on the cake.
Oh, thanks!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cake! I may have to copy you for Lauren's 1st birthday. We always call her "Our little monkey" because she gets into everything and has cute little monkey ears. Any tips on how to make one as cute as you did?
Thanks! We used invitations and balloons from www.celebrateexpress.com. For the cake I used a round pan, and then used a cupcake cut in half for the ears. You just bake it like normal and then I used the monkey on the invitations as a guide. To make the light brown I just mixed some chocolate and vanilla icing. Then just ice the cupcakes to the main cake, and frost all around the edges so it just looks like normal cake. I used a plastic bag with a tiny hole cut in one corner to do the eyes, mouth and nose.
Lizz,
Your boy is so stinkin cute and I can't wait to see him and everyone else at Aaron's wedding! It will be fun to catch up and see all the babies! We'll see you in about a week! Have a very Merry Christmas! Have a splendid birthday too!
