Asher Denrick

I never really wanted to be a Mom, I didn't even want to get married. I had too many ambitions and couldn't be bothered with getting tied down and popping out kids.

All that came to a screeching halt when I met Nick Daley, we got married and 6 years later popped out a kid. Before I had a kid of my own, I wasn't really a kid person. I didn't put razor blades in licorice at Halloween or anything, but I just felt uncomfortable around them. That changes when you have your own kid. Asher is now a little over 6 months and he has taught me so many lessons about life and about myself.

Patience is a Virtue . . .

That all mothers get, well all good mothers, when they have kids. Before Asher I was an incredibly impatient person; I got antsy, frustrated and resembled my brother when he was 6, ADD and hopped up on sugar. I was extremely worried that when I had kids, I would resemble "Gangy" on Arrested Development, constantly berating my children and drinking way too much hooch. After all that, it's incredibly hard to be patient when your child throws up resulting in 4 changes of clothes. I've realized that I have a stockade of patience stored for occassions just like this, that I can whip out at a moments notice.

A Smile Can Fix Anything
A diaper smeared across his back and full of something that looks exactly the same as when it went in.

When you're burping a baby and he throws up his whole bottle all down your back.

You sigh in frustration as he screams at the top of his lungs in the middle of a dressing room.

He shoves a cookie in his mouth as it drips juicy crumbs all down his body.

Of course after all of these, he gives you a big gummy smile, and all the frustration, all the anger, all the weariness just melts away!

There's Nothing Better than a Sleeping Baby
I have found that a sleeping baby is like a dose of narcolepsy. When a baby lays on your chest, and you rub his back and he falls asleep, it has a completely calming effect. You can't be mad, sad, or awake when a baby falls asleep in your arms.

Your Kids are Better than Other Kids
While this statement may seem very condescending, it's completely true. Before Asher I'd babysat a few times just to pay for my weekend, Middle School trips to the mall. One of my memories of babysitting was a little girl screaming bloody murder and running all around the house screeching like a banshee that she hated me and that she wanted her Mommy. You have more patience with your kids, your kids don't gross you out like other's kids, and you just love them more which helps.
